Student loan debt hits record numbers

Student loan debt is on the rise, and it's touching a record number of households in the United States.

A new report from the Pew Research Center finds 19 percent of households had student loan debt in 2010, up from 15 percent three years earlier. The average amount owed was $26,682. That's 14 percent higher than in 2007, and more than double the average debt from 1995. Around 10 percent of households have student debt of $62,000 or more.

Apple: New iPhone selling at record pace

If anyone doubted the public's appetite for another bite at the Apple, first-weekend sales figures for the iPhone 5 should put that to rest.

Apple says it has moved more than 5 million of the new phones since they went on sale Friday. That's 1 million more than the iPhone 4S sold in its opening weekend last year, although the iPhone 5 went on sale in more countries.
