While it remains to be seen whether Bernie Sanders will become president, the candidate is already making a difference in some supporters' lives.
Thanks to newly launched dating website Bernie Singles,, Sanders may be responsible for some real-life romances. The site welcomes fans of the presidential candidate to sign up for a free account and get to know each other.
The site kicked off on February 16 and crashed after it got more than 1 million hits in its first day. Joshua Kaunert, the media relations manager for Bernie Singles, says that ever since that day, he and a small group of volunteers have been working around the clock to keep the site going.
"As of today, we have 10,000 registered users," he said Wednesday. "We've spent about $500 total, plus well over 1,000 hours. We've all been sleepless since the day it launched."
The idea for the site came from Colten Caudle, an Arizona State University student, because of a similarly themed Facebook group called Bernie Sanders' Dank Memes Singles.. After chatting about the idea of making the group into a real dating site, they gave it a spin and it took off fast.
The site currently has a GoFundMe to raise funds so the founders can migrate it to a better server. Kaunert says that any donations they get after meeting the site's basic needs will be donated to Sanders' campaign.
Now the liberal-minded know where to go next time they need a date.
