I'm not going to go so far as to say there was a time when Adam Duritz was cool, but there was definitely a time when the Counting Crows lead singer was cool-ish.
For a good stretch there in the '90s, he offered a non-threatening, coffee shop rock alternative to the grunge and West Coast rap takeover. And dreads. Lots of people dug it -- and him.
But now, here comes yet another reminder that all that was once young, fresh, semi-cool and, at the very least, featured a haircut of which your parents disapproved, gets old. And so do we.
The magazine for the AARP is proudly trumpeting the fact that Adam Duritz -- yes, that Adam Duritz -- turns 50 years old today. Carbon dating of his dreads confirms the magazine's claim.
We recommend celebrating the magazine's cruel birthday reminder by listening to some of the Counting Crows' biggest hits, like "Mr. Jones and Me at the Podiatrist" or "Accidentally in Love With My Tempur-Pedic Mattress."
