Columbia Pictures has just released the first trailer for its upcoming remake of the classic Broadway musical-turned-movie, "Annie." The times have changed, and the 1920s Depression-era Hoovervilles have been replaced by the bustling streets of modern-day New York.
Annie will be played by Quvenzhané Wallis, one of the youngest Academy Award-nominated actresses. Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx will portray Benjamin “Will” Stacks, an updated version of “Daddy Warbucks.”
The ensemble cast is star-studded, with Cameron Diaz stepping into Carol Burnett’s shoes to play Ms. Hannigan, Annie's foster mom. Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale also have roles in the movie as advisers to Benjamin Stacks.
This is not the first attempt at an "Annie" remake, but this time Director Will Gluck is teaming up with producers James Lassiter, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Shawn "JAY Z" Carter and others to give "Annie" a fresh 21st-century makeover.
"Annie" will be released December 19, 2014.
