A charming poem written by 14-year-old Jordan Nichols has hit the popularity nerve of social media, racking up over 142,000 retweets in a few days.
The poem, titled "Our Generation," appears to have a negative tone, opening with the lines, "Our generation will be known for nothing. Never will anybody say, We were the peak of mankind." However, at the bottom of the poem, a note in parenthesis says "Read from the bottom up."
At this point, the piece becomes a completely different poem, championing the current generation for their drive and determination.
Derek Nichols, Jordan's older brother, posted the picture on his Twitter account, later laughing about its viral success.
Nichols also noted that he thought his brother had written something important.
Some people who saw the poem compared it to a Jonathan Reed poem that uses a similar structure called " Lost Generation," but Nichols defended his brother, saying his work was original.
