HLNtv.com sat down with Alex Pettyfer -- British actor and motorcycle enthusiast -- to talk accents, ladies and McConaughey. Pettyfer is best known for playing the young, upstart stripper in "Magic Mike." Now, he's starring in the "Endless Love" remake, set to hit theaters on Valentine's Day. Can't get enough Alex? Watch his Weekend Express interview this Saturday on HLN!
HLN: You’re best known for playing a very American construction worker in Magic Mike--
Alex Pettyfer: He’s actually Canadian…No I’m joking. He’s not. He’s American.
HLN: Well, after playing this American character, are people ever surprised to discover you’re British?
AP: I was at a Q&A the other day, and I started speaking and one went ‘Oh, why are you doing an English accent?’ I said, ‘Oh, I am English.' Sometimes I get reactions like that.
HLN: What’s your best pickup line?
AP: I don’t have any. I’m terrible. I’m too shy to go up and pick up people.
HLN: We heard you got pulled over for a U-turn recently on your motorbike?
AP: No, unfortunately someone hit my motorbike. They did a hit and run. So, I called the police myself to come and investigate. You can’t always believe what your read.
HLN: So if you’re not breaking laws on your motorbike, what have you gotten in trouble for? What’s the worst thing you’ve ever been punished for?
AP: I can’t tell you that! You’re gonna get me in trouble.
HLN: What was going through your head when you taped that scene in "Magic Mike" where Matthew McConaughey shows you how to do that sexy hip grind move in front of the mirror?
AP: I was in character so it was uh…It was an interesting experience.
HLN: So, how was working with Matthew McConaughey?
AP: He’s amazing. His work ethic is incredible and just the way he approaches doing a movie is fantastic.
HLN: Will the Lionel Richie/Diana Ross theme song from the original "Endless Love" be making an appearance in the movie, and will you be singing it?
AP: No, it will not be in the movie, and I tried persistently to tell them that I would sing it, and they could put it in the movie, and I have a terrible singing voice so it didn’t end up there.
HLN: Do you hate or love Valentine’s Day?
AP: I love Valentine’s Day. It’s a day to celebrate the people you love, whether it’s a girlfriend or family or friends.
HLN: Do you have any plans?
AP: I’m gonna spend it with my mum. She wants to go see "Endless Love."
