Fashion blogger Jillian Mercado, who HLN wrote about last spring, is back in the news after being selected as a model for the venerable Italian design company, Diesel in its new denim campaign.
Mercado, who has spastic muscular dystrophy, was reportedly among two dozen models chosen for the prestigious job.
"You all have no idea how speechless I am right now," she posted on her site Thursday, with a picture of herself in full Diesel mode "for the Spring/Summer Diesel Campaign," she said. "My very first international campaign image for Diesel. [seen below]"
Diesel's Artistic Director Nicola Formichetti said he was looking for "a rebellious attitude, which is closely tied to denim," when he found Mercado. “It’s never easy for her to move from point A to point B, but she’s totally fearless and has really been an inspiration to me,” Formichetti recently told Women's Wear Daily.
When HLN interviewed the New York native in April, Mercado said she always had a sense of style, but it took off as she neared high school graduation.
"I think I always had a passion for the fashion industry but it was until my senior year of high school that I really got into it. I started by collecting magazines and reading/ studying about the fashion world and in till now I have a pretty good collection of magazines," she told HLN.
Now she's hit the big time. In her most recent blog post, Mercado praised Diesel effusively for the opportunity.
"Thank you for giving me a chance of a lifetime and believing in me. This is beyond everything. You guys that’s me!!"
