After more than two decades on the show, actress Alison Sweeney says she is leaving the soap opera "Days of Our Lives."
"I've been on 'Days of Our Lives' for 21 years. I'm celebrating my 21st year," Sweeney reveals on Tuesday's "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "And I decided that it's going to be my last year with the show."
Sweeney has been on the soap opera since she was 16 and became emotional while making the announcement. "I have worked so much, and my daughter just turned 5 and my son is 9, and I just want to be with them," she explains. Her role as Sami Brady on the show catapulted her to fame, eventually leading to a hosting gig on "The Biggest Loser."
Sweeney says she's unsure of exactly what will happen to her character, but she hopes for the best: "It would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending," she tells DeGeneres. "But then, I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted, like 'Breaking Bad' ending."
So what's next for Sweeney? Family time, she says. "I'm really just excited to be with my kids and be with my husband and, I don't know, have fun. And I write. My second book's coming out. I love directing and just, you know, finding things to do."
