Actor Russell Johnson, best-known for his iconic role as the professor on the hit TV series “Gilligan’s Island,” has died. He was 89.
Johnson passed away Thursday at his home in Washington state with his family by his side, according to his longtime agent Mike Eisenstadt. Eisenstadt said Johnson was working up until the holidays, signing autographs and cards for an event.
Before Johnson appeared on "Gilligan's Island," the actor appeared in science-fiction flicks, "It Came From Outer Space" and "This Island Earth." Johnson also acted in several TV westerns and sci-fi series, but he was most widely known as the affable Professor Roy Hickley, one of the seven castaways on "Gilligan's Island."
Eisenstadt described Johnson as "a positive and nice guy," who always treated him with respect.
Johnson is survived by his wife, daughter, stepson and grandson.
