D'aww: Dog refuses to leave paralyzed cat pal

Idgie the daschund and Ruth the cat are the animal BFFs you have been waiting for. They were found abandoned together at the end of a driveway in Lake Mary, Florida. Poor Ruth can't use her back legs, and is unable to walk properly. Despite being completely mobile, Idgie refused to leave Ruth's side.

The pair was rescued and placed in the care of Hollywood Houndz Pet Boutique and Spa, where the besotted employees decided to keep them in the shop as forever friends.

Even though the sweet creatures have been in a safe place for three months now, the owner of the shop says Idgie still stands guard any time a new dog is brought in, to make sure Ruth isn't scared. The pup also shares all of its toys, and cat and dog frolic together despite Ruth's significant kitty disabilities. "We've had bonds between animals," said Jacqueline Borum of Hollywood Houndz. "I don't know if we've ever seen anything quite like this, between a cat and a dog."

Obviously, Idgie and Ruth were named after characters from "Fried Green Tomatoes" because of their heartwarming bond.
