Kanye West thinks his job as a rapper is as dangerous and life-threatening as that of a police officer or a soldier, but clearly, not everyone agrees with that sentiment.
West drew the ire of a police chief from a small Ohio town after saying that he "literally" puts his life on the line while on stage: “I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a police officer or something, or like war or something," said West during an interview over the weekend on the radio show "Saturday Night Online". He added, “You’re literally going out to do your job every day, knowing that something could happen to you.”
The comparisons drew outrage from all quarters, but Brimfield Police Chief David Oliver decided to lay down the law on the rapper by addressing him directly.
In a sarcastic open letter posted to the Brimfield Police Department’s Facebook page on Thursday, Oliver calls West "ignorant" and offered a curt suggestion: "I am strongly encouraging you immediately abandon you career as a super star and join the military. After joining, I would like you to volunteer to be deployed in Afghanistan or one of the numerous other forward locations where our men an women are currently serving."
Adding that West's "line of thinking is part of the problem in the world today," Oliver unleashes against the "Black Skinheads" rapper, writing: "What I do not get is you EVER comparing what you do for a living to our heroic military members, who are always in harm’s way… and my brother and sister police officers who have to go to work carrying weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest to protect themselves."
Before signing off, Oliver reminds West to "check yourself, before you wreck yourself." The post has received more than 77,000 likes and over 50,000 shares in just a single day.
