Actress Amanda Bynes is mentally competent to stand trial in a previous DUI case, a judge has ruled.
A hearing took place on Wednesday in Los Angeles during which Judge James Bianco determined that Bynes, who is currently being held at an undisclosed facility, is fit to understand the charges against her.
Bynes did not attend the hearing, and the court declared that a progress report on the troubled starlet will be held on January 7. The charges stem from an April 2012 DUI arrest, which was followed by a series of episodes of erratic behavior from Bynes that eventually led to her being hospitalized in July under a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold.
That hospitalization was extended until Bynes was transferred to the undisclosed facility. She will reportedly be released by Christmas.
