Authorities are investigating the theft of $26,000 worth of rare bourbon.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said someone took nearly 200 bottles of 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon and nine cases of Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye from a secure area of The Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky.

Melton told HLN affiliate WHAS the thefts occurred over the past two months and may have been an inside job. WHAS reports 50 employees had access to the rare bourbon and are being questioned about the thefts.

The listed price for a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle is $130, but it can cost over $1,000 online.
