Miley Cyrus came out strong in her opening monologue on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, saying she would not apologize for her recent VMAs performance that caused such a stir.
However, compared to the racy behavior Cyrus has been drawing criticism for lately, her performances as "SNL" host and musical guest were pretty tame. The show poked fun at the singer's video for "Wrecking Ball," and put a tongue-in-cheek twist on her single "We Can't Stop," with a song called "We Did Stop" that parodied the government shutdown.
Cyrus supporters were out in droves on Twitter afterward. A few made a point of addressing the Miley-haters directly:
Miley Cyrus actually killed it on #SNL last night. Hilarious stuff!

Everyone's getting pissed at pictures of Miley Cyrus practically naked but she still looks better than you on your best day.

Some also noticed that Miley's dramatic new look seemed to be reminiscent of another celeb they're seeing a lot of these days.

A few people didn't really take a side, but seemed to keep a sense of humor about it all:
When Miley Cyrus is naked & licks a hammer it’s “art” and “music”...but when I do it, I’m “wasted” and “have to leave Home Depot"

Of course, Cyrus isn't exactly acting sensitive to anyone's commentary. After a week that included a generous dose of criticism from Sinead O' Connor, who told Cyrus in an open letter that the young performer was allowing herself to be "pimped by the music business," her skin is probably growing thicker by the minute. Regardless, if what Cyrus said on Saturday's show is any indicator, we may never see her twerking again.
"Now that white people are doing it, it seems kind of lame," she said.
