George Zimmerman is off the hook -- for now.
Police say it may take months for investigators to decide whether charges will result from George and Shellie Zimmerman’s alleged domestic dispute.

Zach Hudson, spokesman for the Lake Mary, Florida, Police Department, told reporters Wednesday that charges will not be filed until the video can be removed from Shellie Zimmerman's iPad, which was badly damaged in the altercation.
"The iPad is in really bad shape," said Hudson. "It could take weeks or months to get video off the iPad."
Zimmerman’s estranged wife called 911 Monday afternoon at the house owned by her father in Lake Mary during an altercation with her husband.
“He’s in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun saying ‘step closer' and he’s going to shoot us,” she told the dispatcher. Shellie Zimmerman told police her husband smashed the iPad during the dispute.

Hudson told reporters Tuesday that he was unsure whether charges will be filed against George, Shellie or her father David Bryant Dean.
“We need to find out and determine if a crime was committed during that incident, and that’s why this is still an open investigation,” Hudson said.
Hudson also said that it appears that no gun was involved in the altercation, and that neither Shellie Zimmerman nor her father saw a firearm.

“If he had one, it was not on his person when we made contact with him. Shellie Zimmerman and Shellie Zimmerman’s father never saw a weapon. Neither did the other four people that were in the front, in the area, while this whole thing was going on. So as of right now a gun is not part of the equation,” said Hudson.
Police have sent Shellie Zimmerman’s damaged iPad in for analysis to see if video can be recovered from it.
“We want to get all the information all the footage off that iPad so we have a good clear picture of what was going on inside that home at the time of this event,” said Hudson. “The iPad is in multiple pieces in reference to the camera system.”
Shellie Zimmerman filed for divorce last week.
