This app can help bring Fido home!

This app can help bring Fido home!

A new app uses facial recognition software to help return missing pets to their homes.

Finding Rover says millions of dogs go missing every year, but only a small percentage find their way back home. Their goal: “Rescue every lost dog.”

How does it work? First download the Finding Rover app (it’s free!). Then snap a picture of your pooch and register Fido with the app. If Fido goes missing, you can alert everyone who is registered with Finding Rover within a 10-mile radius to be on the lookout. It will also compare your photo of Fido to any photos of dogs found in the area.

But it also works the other way. If you find a dog that appears to be missing, you can take a picture and upload it to the app. Finding Rover’s facial recognition software tries to match that picture with dogs listed as missing, as well as any dogs registered with the app. If there is a match, you can contact the owner directly from the app. Fido could be home before you even realize he was gone!
