Teen in custody after WWII vet beaten to death

WWII veteran Delbert Belton survived being wounded in action during the Battle of Okinawa only to be beaten and left for dead by two teens at the Eagles Lodge in Spokane on Wednesday evening. Belton, 88, succumbed to his injuries Thursday morning at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

An arrest has been made in the beating death of a World War II veteran in Spokane, Washington, police said Friday.

Authorities said the suspect, a juvenile, has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the death of 88-year-old Delbert "Shorty" Belton.

According to authorities, Belton was attacked in the parking lot of the Eagles Lodge where he liked to play pool. Belton was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Authorities said the incident appears to be a random attack. Police are still looking for another suspect and have released photos from a surveillance camera.
