Patricia Krentcil, also known as “Tan Mom”, joined HLN’s Dr. Drew Thursday night for her first television interview since coming out of rehab for alcoholism.
The 45-year-old checked into The Lukens Institute in Florida in June to undergo a 30-day treatment period. Lindsay Lohan’s father Michael was the reason Krentcil went to that particular facility, she says, as she heard him talk in an interview about its rate of success.
However, in a previous appearance on Dr. Drew On Call, viewers had questioned Krentcil’s sobriety. She denied having anything to drink at the time. But on Thursday night’s interview, the New Jersey resident admitted that she actually was intoxicated during the interview.
When asked what motivated her to get sober, she replied, “I hit rock bottom and I was willing to go and get well and admit my problems. I just was sick of being tired, sick of being sick … I was depressed ... but now I feel great. I'm sober, I'm healthy.”
She added, "I go to counseling and I go to meetings here and there … I don't particularly believe in AA. Why? It goes back to my childhood. I have issues with that -- valid issues -- I don't oppose it. You've got to find what works for you as well.”
In her prior interview, Krentcil stated that she had been kidnapped, drugged and abused growing up into her early adulthood years.
But she told Dr. Drew, “Alcoholism is a disease and I have it and every single day I'm grateful that I'm here.”
The mother of five made global headlines last year when she was accused of bringing her then 5-year-old daughter to a tanning bed. A grand jury declined to charge Krentcil with child endangerment.
