Want to taste what ‘The Rock’ was cooking?

  • Alcatraz Prison was shut down on March 21, 1963
  • Prisoners' last meal consisted of short ribs, meatloaf

A California hotel is allowing guests to taste food similar to the last meal given to inmates on Alcatraz.

The Eclipse restaurant at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco will offer a menu based on the food served before the prison closed its doors on March 21, 1963.

Executive chef Victor Litkewycz will offer his own modern interpretation of the inmates’ final meal at "The Rock," which included spaghetti, baked meatloaf with pan gravy and boiled short ribs with horseradish sauce.

The special menu will be available at the restaurant from August 8 to September 2. It’s part of the hotel’s "Alcatraz: Life on the Rock" exhibit.
