A Kentucky man is accused of releasing a skunk in a gas station bathroom.
WYMT reported that 35-year-old Kevin Kibert allegedly entered Lee’s Food Mart in Middlesboro carrying a garbage bag, went into the bathroom briefly and then left.
The store manager told the station Kibert apologized when he came out of the bathroom and when an employee went in to see what he was sorry about, “Kevin had evidently left a baby skunk in the restroom.”
They eventually caught the skunk in a garbage can and released it, but the manager estimated the gas station lost $6,000 in business due to the smell.
Kibert was arrested and charged with criminal mischief. He remains in custody at Bell County Detention Center, according to jail records.
In an interview with WYMT, Kibert denied the allegations.
"I was in a brand new XTerra and there ain't no way my buddy was going to let me ride around with a skunk," Kibert said. "Why didn't it spray me? Even if I did and had to and walked away, it would have got me."
