Gabby Douglas: 'I take one step at a time'

At the age of just 17, gymnast Gabby Douglas already has two Olympic gold medals and three ESPY nominations under her belt. No big deal, whatevs.

The Olympian opens up about her first-time nominations for her achievements and spills the beans on what she's working on next.

HLN: This is your first time being nominated for an ESPY and you’re nominated in three categories! How does it feel?
Gabby Douglas: I’m very excited! And so honored to be nominated with all these incredible athletes! It’s my first ESPYS, so I’m just really looking forward to the whole night. Being nominated is such an honor!

HLN: Why should fans vote for you?
Douglas: Because of my passion for the sport and my personality. I love my fans and I love their support, so it would mean the world if they could vote for me. And I love inspiring kids and young adults, so I would be so honored to have their vote.

HLN: You have had so many achievements in your life already — what are you working on now?
Douglas: Just training each week.

HLN: Does that mean we’ll see you in the 2016 Olympics?
Douglas: Definitely!

HLN: You’ve set a high bar (pun intended) for yourself at the London Olympics, so the stakes might be a little higher for you in Rio de Janeiro. How do you deal with that kind of pressure?
Douglas: Just how I handled pressure before: Not think about expectations, listen to my coach, and enjoy myself.

HLN: Besides your sports career, what else are you working on?
Douglas: I wrote two books recently. The first one is called “Grace, Gold & Glory: My Leap of Faith,” and it talks about my life story and the road to the Olympics. The second one is “Raising the Bar,” and it’s an Instagram book — it has cool pictures in it and is for my fans.

HLN: Getting to the Olympics was a big dream for you. What’s your next big dream?
Douglas: I take one step at a time, but there are a lot of things I could be doing in the future. Producing hosting, acting — there are a lot of opportunities out there. I’ve already guest-hostedAmerica’s Got Talent” with Nick Cannon and that was fun. And I’ve also done a couple of movies: I was in “Kicking It” on Disney XD and had a little cameo in “Vampire Diaries.”

If you'd like to vote for Douglas, you can do so here for Best Female Athlete, here for Best Female U.S. Olympian, and here for Best Team -- Fierce Five. Voting ends on July 17 at 9 p.m. ET.
