Country star Randy Travis was rushed into surgery overnight after having a stroke.

The hospital in Plano, Texas says he is out of surgery to relieve pressure on his brain and is in critical condition.

The stroke was apparently a complication of his congestive heart failure.

He was hospitalized Sunday with a virus that attacks the heart muscles.

Travis' publicist says his family is asking for prayers and support.

MORE: Setback came just hours after his doctors said Travis had "stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement."
