Boyfriend guilty in swimsuit designer's death

The boyfriend of a swimsuit designer found dead in an exclusive New York City hotel was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday.

Sylvie Cachay’s body was found in a bathtub in Manhattan’s SoHo House on Dec. 9, 2010.

Her boyfriend, Nicholas Brooks, 27, who prosecutors painted as a lazy, unemployed drug-user, was found guilty of strangling and drowning her. But Brooks’ attorney argued that Cachay, who was 33 at the time of her death, drowned accidentally after she passed out from an overdose of prescription pills.

Brooks' sentencing is scheduled for July 26.  He is the son of Academy Award-winning songwriter Joseph Brooks, who composed the song "You Light Up My Life."
