The good folks at the Cleveland Animal Protective League are currently experiencing a little slice of magic.
One of their mother cats has taken in a days-old abandoned pit bull puppy as one of her own. Too cute? Almost too cute.
The tiny little pup was just a day old when the shelter's staff found it at their facility's door. The APL often receives animals this way, but rarely are they so small and vulnerable. The APL's staff members weren't even sure what to do with the puppy -- at only a day old, with no mother in sight, its chances of survival were low.
Enter Lurleen, an "overly friendly, somewhat special momma cat" at the APL. Not only does Lurleen have a top-tier cat name, she is also a new mother. The team decided to take a chance and introduce her to the pup.
"We just held the puppy up to her,” Ayse Dunlap, the APL's Director of Operations, told HLN affiliate WJW. “She started sniffing and immediately nuzzling and licking and just accepted the puppy as one of her own immediately. It was remarkable to witness it.”
Since the little pup will obviously grow up to be much bigger than Lurlene and her four other kittens, it also gets fed several times a day by foster volunteers. Eventually, when Lurlene and her mixed brood are old enough, they will be adopted out by the APL.
If that is not enough cute for you, you should probably look at more pictures and video of Lurlene and her litter on WJW's website. It will make your day.
