Authorities are looking for answers in the murder of a Michigan mother whose body was found in a small lake over a week ago -- and so is former “The View” co-host Star Jones.

The victim, 32-year-old Rosaline “Rhonda” Ransom Lee, is the sister of a close friend of Jones. Lee had two sons and a 9-month-old daughter.

Lee’s body was discovered by a fisherman in Terry Lake in Pontiac, Michigan, on the morning of Sunday, May 26. According to police, she was partially clothed and had died from manual strangulation.

Lee was last seen alive around 3 a.m. that day as she drove away from her mother’s house about a mile from the lake to meet somebody. Her vehicle, a 2001 white Dodge Caravan, was found on a street near the lake around 6:30 a.m..

Police have not identified any suspects in the case, and they have not released the name of the person Lee was planning to meet. Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe told HLN that investigators are interested in speaking to people who knew Lee.

According to Lee’s sister, Richelle Ransom, a man answered her cell phone at 9:30 a.m. on May 26 and said he found it broken on the side of the road.

Lee’s mother, Gloria Ransom, told the Oakland Press that her daughter was a very cautious woman with a soft heart. She said she believes the killer had to be someone Lee trusted because she would not have opened her car door for a stranger.

Star Jones met Richelle Ransom through Twitter about four years ago and discovered they had been members of the same sorority. Jones is now pleading for the public to come forward and help solve the murder of her friend’s sister.

Jones and Richelle Ransom are scheduled to appear on HLN’s Nancy Grace Tuesday night to discuss the case.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about Rosaline Lee’s death -- or anyone who saw her in the 24 hours before her body was found -- to contact 1-800-Speak-Up. A $1,000 reward is available.
