This might go down as one of the most expensive weddings to date. Napster co-founder and Facebook billionaire Sean Parker wed singer/songwriter Alexandra Lenas on Saturday in Big Sur, California, with a reported price tag of $10 million.
Three hundred guests enjoyed the wedding that was staged in a protected redwood forest in Big Sur behind the Ventana Inn, but hosting the nuptials there cost the newlywed Parkers a hefty sum.
The entrepreneur paid a $2.5 million fine to the California Coastal Commission for holding his wedding in an ecologically sensitive area -- so at final tally, that means the big day cost approximately $12.5 million. Parker failed to obtain the proper permits to build in the area, where threatened steelhead trout live. The fine will go toward promoting coastal conservation and improving recreational activities in the area.
"Mr. Parker has been extremely cooperative and actively involved in working with Coastal Commission staff to reach this resolution," said California Coastal Commission Executive Director Charles Lester in a statement Monday.
In that same statement, Parker said that he and his wife "always dreamed of getting married in Big Sur, one of the most magical places on Earth," and that he is "excited to support these important conservation-related projects for and with the local community.”
