Stories about tips in the food service business can often be awful, as evidenced by that one time the Applebees waitress got a rude surprise when she picked up her table's ticket. For every horror story in the food business, though, there's one that can make you believe people really can do kind things. HLN affiliate WTHR tells the story of one of those today, and we bet it will leave you smiling.
Steak 'n Shake waitress CeCe Bruce said she was having a hard time with diners at another table. Bruce said she "kept smiling and going on" with her Wednesday morning shift.
A few minutes later, Bruce noticed that there was a tip written on the receipt from a customer at another table. The bill was only $5.97, but the tip was $446.
Bruce tried to refuse the amount, but the customer that left it, Miss Jo, insisted and said "You need to take it."
Rather than bask in the glory of her kind actions, the customer "signed the receipt and walked out the door," according to Bruce.
And what will she do with her newfound windfall?
"Pay bills, pay bills right on time, that's what I'm definitely going to do," the waitress said.
