Nancy Grace: ‘Wild horses can’t keep Arias off stand’

  • Will Jodi Arias plead for her life during penalty phase?
  • "I strongly predict it,” says Nancy Grace
  • Trial now moves on to the penalty phase, where jurors will decide if Arias lives or dies

Jodi Arias may have testified for 18 days, tweeted throughout her trial, and spoke out to the media in a tell-all interview just minutes after being convicted of first-degree murder, but that’s not the last we will hear from the convicted murderer, HLN's Nancy Grace predicts.

“I predict Jodi Arias will take the stand during the penalty phase, in fact, I strongly predict it,” Grace said Wednesday.

A jury said Arias was “extremely cruel” when she murdered Travis Alexander during the aggravation phase of her trial. Now the jury will have to make the ultimate decision as to whether she will live or die for her crime.

“I doubt wild horses will keep her off the stand. As a matter of fact, judging from the fact of her on-air appearance after she was found guilty of murder, and when the jury found the aggravating factor of cruelty proven…she took to Twitter,” Grace said.

During the penalty phase of the trial, jurors are expected to hear victim impact statements from members of Travis Alexander’s family, as well as statements from Arias’ friends and family in a bid to save the convicted murderer from being sent to death row. It’s possible Arias will take the stand and beg the jury to save her life.

“I doubt very seriously Jodi Arias would pass another star turn with the eyes of the nation and jury upon her,” Grace said.

But there’s one problem for Arias, according to Grace.

“After 18 days on the stand for the guilt or innocence phase, the jury doesn’t believe a word she says, so taking the stand will work to her strategic detriment.”

The penalty phase of the trial starts Thursday. HLN will cover this phase of the trial live, and will live-blog the proceedings.
