'Lucky' pup saved from certain death

What do you call a dog who has survived abandonment and a freak accident, only to find a new and better future? Lucky, of course.

Lucky the puppy was found abandoned in an open shipping container in Hollywood, Florida. His back leg was mangled from a run-in with a train, and had local man Grew Bowser not come across him, the pup would surely be a goner.

"I was at work and a co-worker told me that he saw a dog limping in this industrial area," Bowser told HLN affiliate WSVN. "It was about 8:30 at night, and I went over with a flashlight, and when I did find him he was pushed up inside this container. That's when I realized that his leg had been completely cut off."

Bowser immediately called his wife, and the pair rushed the dog to the Hollywood Animal Hospital where doctors performed emergency surgery to remove the rest of the injured leg.

"This puppy would not have survived very long with the amount of infection that was already going on in the leg," Hollywood Animal Hospital Dr. James Dee told the station. "He'd have passed."

Now, Lucky's prognosis looks pretty good, and not just because he's on the way to healing. After being lost, injured and left for dead, Lucky has finally found a family.
"We seem to be coming along quite well," Dee told the station. "And hopefully we'll be able to send him home to the Bowsers sometime this coming week."
