An American was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in North Korea.

Kenneth Bae is accused of committing "hostile acts" against the north, according to state media.

The U.S. asked for his release on humanitarian grounds.

Bae was arrested in November.

A U.S. official says he's a tour operator who had a valid visa.
