FDA OKs Plan B for 15-year-olds

  • FDA approves over-the-counter sale of Plan B to girls 15 and up with proof of age
  • Drug can reduce the risk of unwanted pregnancy if taken soon after unprotected sex

Girls as young as 15 can now buy the so-called "morning after pill" over the counter.

The FDA issued the new rules for Plan B One-Step emergency contraception pills yesterday.

A New York judge recently ruled that anyone should be able to buy the pills, but the justice department says it might appeal that.

The FDA says yesterday's change isn't related to that lawsuit.
