4 reasons why we hate, er, ♥ Jayoncé

  • We give you 4 songs that sum up Bey & Jay's relationship
  • Thursday is the couple's fifth anniversary -- 4-4-13

Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Beyoncé and Jay-Z – the king and queen of all things… uh, we're not sure, but we will be by the end of this article. With their fifth wedding anniversary on Thursday (4-4-13), we break down their relationship in four (4) songs -- and explain our love for them.

But first some background: The two music powerhouses met some 13 years ago, sparking an unprecedented amount of speculation of their coupledom which lasted for about eight years into their relationship.
While initially denying their romantic association for a while, the two began to warm up to us – we should all feel privileged, this is the Bey and Jay, Sasha Fierce and Hov, Blue Ivy's (pro)creators! – And in 2008, they wed in a private rooftop ceremony.
Now, as they approach the threshold of their five-year anniversary (4/4/2013), we would like to wish the royal couple of music a happy anniversary, HLN style! Here's a list of four of our favorite lyrics and quotes from the two music powerhouses:
1. '03 Bonnie & Clyde' by Jay-Z feat. Beyoncé
The year 2003 saw the power couple in their early stages: Beyoncé with her micro braids and Jay with his oversized tees and Timberlands. This duet, which appeared on the rapper's 2002 album "The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse," saw the two tease the public even more with their relationship.

Today, I got my thoroughest girl with me

I'm mashin' the gas, she's grabbin' the wheel, it's trippy how hard

She rides with me - the new Bobby and Whitney

And with the rest of the song following in the tone of these lines, it's hard to ever think that these two were not an item.
2. 'Crazy In Love' by Beyoncé feat. Jay-Z
You saw this one coming. Officially dubbed the couple's official -- yet unofficial -- relationship announcement, "Crazy In Love" boasted some lyrical content that had everyone saying, "I knew it!"
When you leave I'm begging you not to go, call your name two, three times in a row.
Such a funny thing for me to try to explain.
How I'm feeling and my pride is the one to gain.
But I know I don't understand just how your love can do what no on else can.
Who are you talking about, Bey? Hmmm...
3.  'Déjà vu'  by Beyoncé feat. Jay-Z
They may be private in their personal lives, but their music is an open book. In 2006's "Déjà vu," Beyoncé let the world know that her relationship with her then-rapper boyfriend was the real deal.
With lines like the following, who could deny it?:
I used to bag girls like Birkin Bags
Now I bag B ([Beyoncé:] Boy you hurtin' that)
The days of denial were over; Jayoncé was warming up to the public and felt no need to hide their long lasting romance any longer. Now, five years later, Beyoncé gave us this gem:
4. 'Love on Top' by Beyoncé
If there was ever a song that would single-handedly sum up the discourse of their relationship, this would be it. "Love on Top" hailed from BaddieBey's fourth studio album "4," simply saw the singer dote on her husband more than ever before:
Everybody asks me why I'm smiling out from ear to ear
But I know nothing's perfect but it's worth it
After fighting through my tears
And finally you put me first
Baby it's you
You're the one I love
You're the one I need
You're the only one I see
Come on, baby it's you!
You're the one that gives your all
You're the I can always call
When I need you babe, everything stops
Finally, you put my love on top!
Shout it from the rooftop, Bey! And during the production of this album, Blue Ivy was created :-)
The music juggernauts also have a lot to celebrate in terms of their respective careers. While Beyoncé's ever loyal Beyhive – her legions of fans – has gone to the extreme length of creating a White House petition to get her to finally release new music, the mother of all things fierce took her time and BAM, she drops some news that had some of her fans gasping for breath.
On Thursday, she released "Mirrors," a Pepsi ad with a new track for the masses. "4.4.2013. 9am EDT. #BeyHereNow," read the end of the mysterious video teaser she put out days before its debut.
Then there's Jay-Z. The suave iconic rags-to-riches rapper has just announced that he's signed on to produce the soundtrack to one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, "The Great Gatsby." Beyoncé will even be one of the project's leading voices, teaming up with Outkast crooner Andre 3000 to cover the late Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black."
Based on what we see from the outside looking in, their relationship is so enviable, it almost makes us want to hate them, but we can't because they're just so… not us.
"I feel like Mrs. Carter is who I am, but more bold and more fearless than I've ever been," Beyoncé told Vogue UK, on which she's the May 2013 cover girl.
So based on their dramatically wonderful life of perfection, we deduce that their secret is simply secrecy. This caused every Hollywood-crazed fan to gawk at their relationship, while not clearly knowing what it really is. Are they together, or are they not? They keep us talking while not personally acknowledging the hoopla that is created based on the public's view of their lives.
Happy fifth anniversary to Jay-Z and Beyoncé, the king and queen of all things mysterious.
