A man arrested at a service area off the New Jersey Turnpike is accused of transporting 42,000 pounds of stolen Muenster cheese.
WISC reported that 34-year-old Veniamin Konstantinovich Balika of Illinois allegedly provided false paperwork to a Wisconsin cheese distributor to get the $200,000 worth of cheese loaded onto his truck. New Jersey authorities said they believe Balika was planning to sell the cheese to east coast retailers for below market value.
"There's a black market for everything," a New Jersey State Police detective told WISC.
Lt. Stephen Jones of the New Jersey State Police told HLN Balika has been charged with receiving stolen property and fencing.
