People lining up for Supreme Court DOMA debate

NEED TO KNOW
  • Supreme Court prepares to argue same-sex marriage question Tuesday
  • California's Prop. 8 and DOMA at center of hearings
People rest in front of the Supreme Court in Washington on March 24, 2013 as people begin lining up for the court's upcoming coming hearings on gay marriage.

There are limited seats for the public.

At the center of debate is whether marriage should be a state or federal issue.

The arguments center around California's Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage, and the federal Defense of Marriage Act, also known as DOMA, which legally defines marriage between one man and one woman.
