In-home car wash offers a shine, but may dent wallet

  • AutoGreenWash car washing system is installed in your home
  • Inventor Dale Retter says device costs almost $30,000

How would you like to have a car wash in the comfort of your own home? Scottsdale, Arizona, inventor Dale Retter can apparently make that happen for a pretty penny.

Retter has developed the AutoGreenWash, an in-home automatic car-washing device that's installed in your home garage.
According to HLN affiliate CBS5, the car-washing system operates with just the push of a button, which lowers a waterproof enclosure around your vehicle. Forty-eight computer-controlled rotating sprayers then wash and rinse your car before drying it with warm, filtered air. And if that wasn't enough, the system even captures used water for home irrigation.
Even though this invention is quite impressive in theory, would you buy it? Retter thinks you will.
"We have a couple people on a wait list but they're all outside of the Phoenix area," Retter told CBS5. "We want to install the first ones in Phoenix, so we're looking to try and do that now.
Having such a luxury comes at a cost, though – $29,500 to be exact, and an additional $4,000 for installation.
Though Retter understands that the cost of his invention is out of range for the everyday consumer, he's confident that it will one day become as common as the good old dishwasher.
"We want to be like the dishwasher, we want to start out as the luxury device, then as the price comes down over the years, we want it to become a standard device that the average homeowner will have," Retter said.
