A New York City police officer accused of plotting to kidnap women and cannibalize them has been found guilty.
Jurors began deliberations last Thursday. They had to decide whether e-mail conversations Gilberto Valle had with alleged co-conspirators about plans to kidnap, torture, rape, cook and eat women were real or fantasy role-play.
A defense attorney said Valle engaged in "dark improv theater" and that he only fantasized about real people to heighten the experience. But jurors sided with the prosecution, which said Valle meant what he said and showed real concern for getting caught.
Valle was charged with conspiring to kidnap women and illegally accessing a federal law enforcement database.
None of his targets was ever victimized. Valle was suspended without pay after his arrest in October and now faces life in prison.
