Joy Behar’s view is about to change. The daytime talk show co-host is leaving “The View” after 16 years with the show.
“Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of 'The View' from the very beginning. We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season,” ABC said in a statement.
Behar’s departure leaves creator Barbara Walters as the only co-host who was part of the show's original lineup when "The View" debuted in 1997. At that time, Behar shared the table with Star Jones, Meredith Vieira and Debbie Matenopoulos.
The last time a host left the show was 2007, when Rosie O’Donnell exited after a tenuous tenure.
ABC’s release gave no indication of what Behar, who also is a comedian, will do in her post-"View" life. Deadline reports that she wants to do other projects, including hosting a new interview show. Currently, she has her own show on Current TV called “Joy Behar: Say Anything.”
