A Florida mom was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse for allegedly stabbing two teens she says were bullying her sons.
Orange County police said Nora Silva stabbed the teen boys in the back with a box cutter, but the grandmother of the allegedly bullied children, Esther Silva, claimed she was the stabber.
The incident began when Nora Silva’s two teenaged boys were surrounded and attacked by a group of more than 15 neighborhood boys after getting off of a school bus. Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s house shows a group of teens harassing one of her sons and pushing him to the ground. At that point, Nora and Esther ran to help while a neighbor called 911.
"I will defend them. I don’t want them to fight," Nora Silva told HLN affiliate WFTV. She said the neighborhood kids surrounded them and continued to beat her boys.
Esther said she was the one who used the box cutter. "I jumped in the middle… and I grabbed him and told him, 'You are not going to hit my grandson.'"
However, police tell a slightly different story. According to Orange County sheriff deputies, once the fight had cooled down, Nora confronted the bullies again and started another brawl. That’s when detectives say it was Nora who pulled out the box cutter and stabbed two of the teens in the back.
"I got him on the ground and started punching him, and then she came from behind and just stabbed me in the back," Marcus Walker, one of the young men cut during the fight, said.
The victims were taken to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital, where they were treated and released.
