During direct examination, Arias said Alexander attacked her June 4, 2008, after she dropped his new camera, and she shot him in self-defense. She claims that she doesn't remember stabbing him. The medical examiner testified earlier in the trial that Alexander was stabbed multiple times, his throat was slit from ear to ear and he was shot in the head.
Arias said she found the gun she used to shoot Alexander in his closet as she tried to escape his wrath. On Wednesday, Martinez pointed out that Arias told Mesa, Arizona, police Det. Esteban Flores during the investigation that Alexander did not own a gun.
"You didn’t know it was going to be important back then in 2008 this issue involving the gun, and that’s why when he asked you about it you said ‘no, he doesn’t have any guns’ because it wasn’t important at that point because you couldn’t foresee the future,” said Martinez.
On Wednesday, Martinez also showed the jury text messages and played voice recordings meant to prove that Arias was always a willing participant in her sexual adventures with Alexander and not a woman forced to comply with Alexander's erotic demands.
