Vinnie: What America wants to know is why

Vinnie: What America wants to know is why

Vinnie Politan is a former prosecutor and host of HLN's Making it in America.

I believe there are two major reasons this trial has caught the attention of the nation.  It begins with the defendant herself. Jodi Arias is unlike any accused murderer I have ever seen.  She presents herself as meek, shy and vulnerable. This is so different from what we know.  She stabbed Travis Alexander more than 2 dozen times, nearly decapitated him by slitting his throat, and shot him in the head.  It is difficult to imagine she did this, but she did.

The question at trial is: Why did she do it? This question of why brings us to the second reason the nation is mesmerized by her testimony. She claims self-defense and sexual abuse. The prosecution says premeditated murder.  In order to uncover the answer we are taking a look at what happened behind closed doors in the very sexual and intimate relationship between Jodi and Travis.  Phone sex, Mormon baptisms, sexting, texting, unorthodox sex, raunchy photos… all of it front and center in the courtroom, and all of it 100% relevant to the only issue in this case: why did she do it?

Trying to figure that out is why we are invested, and why we are so fascinated, with how the story unfolds-- and how it turns out.
