Google Glass, Google’s new “smart glasses,” debuted last week with this demo. In the video, Google Glass is portrayed as innovative, useful, cool and futuristic -- but is it wearable?
Since eyewear is its own fashion sector -- and the smart glasses do sport a very particular look -- HLN spoke with a couple of fashion editors who can pick a stylish accessory out of a paper bag. Will Google Glass soon be fashion’s hottest trend? See for yourself:
Celia Smith, fashion editor, ESSENCE.com:
"Design-wise, I don't think they're quite there yet to be considered a fashion accessory -- but from a functionality standpoint, they are cool and would work for a fashionista's social lifestyle."
Lauren Finney, personal stylist and blogger:
"As a marketing tool, Google glasses is ingenious for fashion companies as Topshop just demonstrated. However, as a fashion statement, I think they are a few versions away from reaching something people will buy to complete an outfit. It still looks a little too New Age!"
Phillip Bloch, celebrity stylist:
"Though it may not be a style statement, a-listers and fashionistas will be desperate to wear Google Glass. It made its debut on the Hollywood scene this year at a pre-Oscars bash, and I wouldn't be surprised to see next year's Best Documentary winner wearing them as he/she goes on stage to accept the award."
What do you think: Would you wear Google Glass as a fashion accessory?
