Pope Benedict XVI celebrates his last Sunday prayers before stepping down on February 24, 2013 at St Peter's Square in Vatican city.

Thousands of people prayed with Pope Benedict XVI, just days before he is to step down.

He gave his final public Angelus blessing from his window overlooking St. Peter's Square in Vatican City Sunday.

He said he is resigning because of his age, but that he is not abandoning the church.

The Pope's last scheduled public appearance will be a general audience on Wednesday.
