A gunshot wound can be fatal, of course, but it's not every day that a victim dies three decades after the shooting takes place. However, that's exactly what authorities say happened this week.
HLN affiliate KTXl reports that Sacramento police are investigating the death of Walter Johnson, 62, who died on Monday due to medical complications from a gunshot wound he suffered in the 1970s.
Police report that Johnson was on his way to his parents home on April 9, 1977, when three men blocked the road with their cars on San Carlos Way. While Johnson remained in his car, the men walked up to the vehicle and shot him after a brief struggle. They also robbed him and fled the scene in their own cars.
Since Johnson's death was due to complications from the gunshot wound, his death is considered a homicide. The thieves were never caught, but police ask that you contact them with any information about the shooting at Sacramento Crime Alert at (916) 443-4357.
