Kelly Clarkson slams Clive Davis over memoir

Kelly Clarkson slams Clive Davis over memoir

Clive Davis may be a music legend, but that isn't stopping Kelly Clarkson from slamming the record exec for spreading "false information" about her in his new memoir, "The Soundtrack of My Life."

Clarkson, who's the subject of an entire chapter in Davis' book, is fuming over Davis' depictions of her as arrogant and childlike, especially in a scene where he describes her breaking down in his office after she didn't get her way.

The former "American Idol" winner took to her Whosay blog to refute his claims in a scathing letter: "So I just heard Clive Davis is releasing a memoir and spreading false information about me and my music. I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans."

She went on to write that she did, in fact, cry in his office once, but not because he insisted on having her smash hit, "Since U Been Gone" on her album, as he says in the book. "I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called 'Because Of You,'" she wrote. "I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that 'I was a [expletive] writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.'"

She continued, saying that Davis -- a man she once looked up to -- told her to "just shut up and sing" and that the experience was "devastating."

Clarkson also takes offense to the fact that Davis describes her album "My December" as a failure and says he left out the part in his book where he "belittled" her and her music in front of industry insiders and "sabotaged the entire project."

Closing out the letter, Clarkson says that, despite the experience, she is in a much better place now professionally: "I love my job. I love my music. I love my fans. I love my label and all of my professional relationships… now. And I am grateful for Clive for teaching me to know the difference."
