Jodi Arias finally started answering questions Tuesday about the days leading up to her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander’s death on June 4, 2008.
During Arias’ testimony, she offered multiple explanations for many of prosecutor Juan Martinez’s examples of premeditation.
Who will the jury believe in this game of he said, she said?
The handgun
Martinez suggests that Arias stole a .25 mm handgun from her grandparents' house and then staged a crime scene to make it look like a thief had broken into their house.
Arias told jurors that she did not steal the gun, and she did not even know her grandfather owned a handgun.
The rental car
Martinez says Arias rented a car on June 2 so she would be less recognizable while she was visiting Alexander in Mesa, Arizona.
Arias says she wanted to rent a more fuel-efficient car because her car was a “gas hog.” She also said she did not want to rent a red car, because she has always been told they get pulled over more often.
Arias’ hair color
The rental car agent testified Arias’ hair was blonde. Martinez says she dyed her hair brown shortly after killing Alexander to be less recognizable.
Arias said her hair was auburn or brown when she rented the car.
The gas cans
Martinez said Arias borrowed two gas cans for her road trip to Mesa, Arizona, so there would be no record of her filling up in Arizona.
Arias said she borrowed gas cans because gas was cheaper in Nevada and Arizona than California.
The upside-down license plate
Martinez said Arias deliberately turned her license plate upside down to avoid being detected in Mesa.
Arias said a few kids outside of the Starbucks she stopped at during her road trip turned it upside down.
The clean sheets
Martinez said Arias washed the sheets in an attempt to clean up the crime scene.
Arias said she and Alexander would always wash the sheets after they had sex.
