Just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean you can avoid the pain and hassle of airport security.
Kim Kardashian and boyfriend Kanye West learned that the hard way when they set off a security scare after being allowed to bypass a TSA checkpoint at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
According to a statement from the Transportation Safety Administration, an airline employee escorted the couple, who were flying back from Brazil on Tuesday, "to provide expedited access to their domestic flight. In doing so, the airline employee violated security protocols by permitting the travelers to bypass the TSA security checkpoint."
After the TSA learned of the security breach, Kardashian and West were both privately screened on the jetway, which led to their flight being delayed for nearly an hour.
American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller says the incident was not the celebrity couple's fault: “This was a lapse in judgment by one of our employees. We’re working closely with the TSA and speaking to the individuals involved to get a better understanding of what happened.”
Kardashian and West, who are expecting a baby this summer, had just returned from Carnival in Brazil and have not commented on the incident.
