Photos of newborns are proud keepsakes not only for parents, but the children who star in them -- when they get old enough to appreciate the moment.
For Latrell Higgins, and the interwebs, that moment is now. But the photos in question aren't of him as an infant, they're of him in his current state -- at age 13 and 112 pounds.
His adoptive mother, Kelli Higgins, is a professional photographer, and got the idea for the photo shoot from a light-hearted conversation the family had last month after she remarked that she was preparing to take photos of a baby. Latrell, who was adopted by the Higgins family in Crestview, Florida, a few years ago, lamented that he didn’t have any baby photos, and they toyed with the fun idea of him posing for baby pics.
Under a caption that reads, "Here's my sweet not so little Newborn!" Higgins uploaded the photos on a Facebook page, and they have gone viral this week.
And does Latrell like the photos and reaction they are getting? Let's just say he's, well, a bundle of joy.
"Latrell said he makes a very cute baby!" Kelli Higgins, told HLN on Thursday. "He is very excited about them [the photos] and is also happy that it may help another older child get adopted."
But the notion also struck another chord with Higgins as well.
“I was very sad too, because I didn’t have any photos of him either," she told the "Today" website. "I think it’s really hard to have children and not know what they looked like when they were younger.”
Commenters on Latrell’s baby photos Facebook page have been as awesome as the pics.
"Latrell, You are a beautiful 'baby' I am sure that Kelli Higgins and family are so proud to have 'given birth from the heart' to you! You are special! Don't let ANYONE tell you differently! Other kids your age have no idea how life works! Don't let them discourage you! I LOVE your 'newborn' pics! What a wonderful idea!" said one commenter.
As for her other children, Higgins said she'll be glad to create baby photos of them as well. But "only if they ask."
