It was a shocking day in court Monday as Jodi Arias described how her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander physically assaulted her and how she still bears an injury from one of those violent incidents.

She also testified that she caught Alexander masturbating to a photograph of a young boy in January 2008. Arias said she didn't cut Alexander out of her life after the disturbing incident because she loved him and believed he wanted to change.

Arias' testimony began Monday where she left off last week, with her discussing a gift Alexander gave her for Valentine’s Day 2007, which included a pair of boys’ Spider-Man underwear. She also testified that she found text messages on his phone that indicated that he was cheating on her. “When I tried to talk to him about it, he blew up and got very defensive, even though I didn’t accuse of him anything," she said.

6:30 p.m. ET: Judge Stephens has recessed court for the afternoon. Arias' testimony will pick back up Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. ET.

6:29 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Nurmi asked her if she was embarrassed Alexander beat her up. Arias said she was ashamed, and didn't want people to know they had some much drama in their relationship. She said she was disgusted with herself.

6:26 p.m. ET: Arias said the fight broke her finger and it did not heal properly. She held up her hand to show the jury how her finger bends now.

6:22 p.m. ET: Arias said she would never call the police on Travis, because she was loyal to him. She said she just thought he was conflicted and had issues like everyone else. She didn't want to betray him.

6:21 p.m. ET: When Alexander came back to the room, he asked to see her hand. Her ring finger on her left hand was injured. She did not seek medical treatment for this injury, because she didn't have medical insurance. She was also worried about the police getting involved if she sought medical treatment.

6:19 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about how Alexander slammed her on the floor at the foot of his bed. He then kicked her in the ribs. She stopped her second kick with her hand and screamed out. Alexander then stormed out of the room. Her finger started to swell up from blocking the kick.

6:13 p.m. ET: Arias gave Alexander a brochure about professional treatment that she thought could help him with his attraction to children. Alexander became enraged, and the argument turned physical.

6:11 p.m. ET: Arias said she believed Alexander did not want to have deviant urges. She still loved him, so she gave him a another chance.

6:09 p.m. ET: Alexander said Arias could help him with this problem. He told he preferred sex with woman, because it made him feel more normal. After this discussion, Arias had anal sex with Alexander.

6:06 p.m. ET: Arias says Alexander was "interested" in young boys and minor girls that were sexually mature.

6:00 p.m. ET: Arias is crying as the attorneys are at sidebar.

5:54 p.m. ET: Arias is crying as she talks about how she coped with finding Alexander masturbating to a young boy. Attorneys are at a sidebar with Judge Stephens.

5:50 p.m. ET: Shortly after she left Alexander's house, he tried to call her multiple times. Arias said she didn't know what to make of the situation. Arias said she went to a Mormon temple visitor's center.

5:49 p.m. ET: Arias said she caught Alexander in his bedroom in late January 2008 masturbating to a picture of a little boy who was 5 or 6 years old. The little boy was in his underwear. Arias says she froze for a minute, and didn't know how to react. Arias left his house, and got in her car and drove away. She said she nauseated.

5:43 p.m. ET: The attorneys are at sidebar with Judge Stephens. Prosecutor Juan Martinez objected to Nurmi's question about what happened in January 2008.

5:42 p.m. ET: Arias told a Mormon friend that she had oral sex with Alexander, and her friend told her to go to her bishop with Alexander to repent.

5:40 p.m. ET: Alexander began to date another girl, Lisa Andrews, in late 2007, but he continued to have sex with Arias.

5:38 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about a time she walked into Alexander's house and he was with another girl. She immediately left his house.

5:34 p.m. ET: Alexander called her and was nice and convinced her to come back to his house, and that night they had anal sex.

5:33 p.m. ET: Arias says she contemplated suicide after the fight. Arias asked a friend if she could borrow a gun so she could kill herself.

"Can I borrow your gun? I'd like to kill myself." said Arias.

5:30 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander called her brother homosexual slurs, because his name is Carl. Arias said she told him that Carl was named after her grandfather as she choked back tears on the witness stand.

5:27 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about why Alexander pushed her down on the ground in his bedroom in October of 2007. She had gotten up to leave the bedroom, because they were in an argument. She threw her down on the ground, because he was done yelling at her.

5:25 p.m. ET: Arias went on the trip to Havasupai in September 2007.

5:23 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about a fight she had with Alexander before they took a trip to Havasupai, Arizona. She said Alexander cursed at her, because she went on a date with John Dixon. She said Alexander did not approve of her going on a date with Dixon.

5:00 p.m. ET: Court is in recess, and the live blog will continue when testimony picks back up.

4:58 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander said horrible things to her one time, and it made her think that she didn't want to marry Alexander.

4:56 p.m. ET: Nurmi asked Arias again why she wouldn't break up with Alexander. Arias says he would do things that made her feel like a million dollars, and he would hint at marrying her.

4:55 p.m. ET: Arias said she stopped telling Alexander about dates she went on with other men.

4:53 p.m. ET: Nurmi asked Arias if Alexander controlled who she dated. Arias said it seemed that he decided who she could date.

4:51 p.m. ET: Alexander teased her and, one time, even reacted negatively when Arias went on dates with other men.

4:48 p.m. ET: Arias said when she would spend the night at Alexander's house, it was difficult to avoid being seen by his roommates the next morning.

4:44 p.m. ET: Defense Nurmi asked Arias how it made her feel when Alexander would ejaculate on her face and throw candy at her.

"I couldn’t help thinking that it was kinda like a prostitute. But, I put it out of his mind and chalked it up to one of his little antics that he did," said Arias.

4:37 p.m. ET:

Defense attorney Nurmi asked Arias about a Prepaid Legal executive director ball she attended with Alexander in the fall of 2007. Nurmi showed the jury a picture from the ball, and Arias began to cry.

4:36 p.m. ET:

"Sometimes when we got together he was very loving and romantic. Sometimes it was just animalistic," said Arias.

4:35 p.m. ET: Arias said she tried to date other people in Mesa, but Alexander had her heart.

4:33 p.m. ET:

Defense attorney Nurmi asked, "So he ejaculated on your face and threw you some candy?"

"Pretty much," replied Arias.

4:32 p.m. ET:

 

4:31 p.m. ET: Alexander had other fantasies according to Arias. Arias said he wanted her to wear the boys underwear and have anal sex. He also fantasized about having sex on the highway and in a plane. Arias said they actually did have sex while driving on the highway.

4:29 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander had a fantasy about him showing up at Arias' house in Mesa, ejaculate on her face and leave without saying a word. He allegedly carried this fantasy out a few times.

4:23 p.m. ET: Alexander and Arias engaged in sexual relations in Alexander's bedroom, her car, when they traveled, and at her apartment in Mesa.

4:21 p.m. ET: Arias said she worked as Alexander's maid the entire time she lived in Mesa.

4:19 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Nurmi showed the jury a photo of a woman in a French maid outfit. Alexander sent Arias the photo as a joke, according to Arias.

4:13 p.m. ET: Court is in recess. It is not clear what is going on, and why there's a delay.

4:03 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Nurmi is looking through his materials.

3:59 p.m. ET: The attorneys are at a sidebar with Judge Stephens.

3:58 p.m. ET:

“I hesitated but when he said it’s $200 a month I said yes, because I needed money,” said Arias.

3:57 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander offered her $200 a month to clean his house in August 2007. Occasionally, Alexander would express the desire to have sex with her while she would clean his house.

“It didn’t bother me. We were still intimate. He was paying attention to me. He was being nice. He was focused on me, making me feel attractive. So, it wasn’t unpleasant,” said Arias.

3:53 p.m. ET:

“Typically the cycle became to develop where there would be a fight, then we would make up, then it would turn sexual and everything would be ok for awhile,” said Arias.

3:52 p.m. ET: During her time in Mesa, Arias made money working at a P.F. Chang's, and Alexander paid her money to clean his house. Alexander requested that Arias wear a French maid outfit while she cleaned his house. The attorneys are at a sidebar with the judge.

3:49 p.m. ET: Arias said she was not Alexander's girlfriend when she moved to Mesa, but they continued to have a sexual relationship.

3:47 p.m. ET: Alexander's house was a 10-minute drive from Arias' new apartment. Arias moved in to her new apartment around August 2007.

3:46 p.m. ET: 

3:44 p.m. ET: Arias is describing how she hunted for apartments in Mesa, Arizona.

3:40 p.m. ET: Arias said she was considering moving to Mesa, Arizona, before she found out he was cheating on me. A friend of Arias' told her she should move to Mesa, Arizona and make it her Mesa. Alexander said Mesa would be a good place for her to live, because it has a strong Mormon community.

3:36 p.m. ET: Arias is back on the stand, and the jury is walking into the courtroom.

1:59 p.m. ET:

"I don’t know. I still loved him so I thought that he was serious about changing and so I continued to be intimate with him," said Arias.

1:58 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander started calling her late at night. These calls were sweet and loving.

1:56 p.m. ET: Alexander convinced Arias that he didn't care about the other women. Arias said very nice and erotic things to her that made her feel attractive. So Arias said they didn't get back together as an official couple, but they talked about giving their relationship another chance.

1:52 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander promised that those other women didn't matter, and that he would change.

1:51 p.m. ET: Alexander told Arias sexual things on the phone the day after they broke up.

1:49 p.m. ET:  The attorneys are at a sidebar with the judge.

1:48 p.m. ET: Alexander called Arias the next day, and the conversation "turned sexual."

1:46 p.m. ET: Arias said they broke up over the phone on June 29, 2007. Alexander was apologetic about cheating on her.

1:44 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about how she broke up with Alexander after the trip to New York in the Summer of 2007.

1:39 p.m. ET: Arias said she felt Alexander loved her during their sexual encounters.

1:37 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Nurmi is asking Arias why she didn't break up with Arias. Arias says she was in denial, and she had low self-esteem.

1:34 p.m. ET: “When I tried to talk to him about it, he blew up and got very defensive, even though I didn’t accuse of him anything. It was kind of a red flag. He assured me that he was only dating me,” said Arias. “Travis was kinda domineering. So, I was worried about confronting him. He got very upset last time I even hinted at it, without even accusing him of anything."

1:28 p.m. ET: Alexander had text messages from another girl on his phone. Arias said the text messages indicated to her that he was cheating on her.

 

“I saw his phone and I debated whether or not I should look in it. I was kinda sitting there and tapping my fingers. And finally I snatched it and I went into the bathroom and I shut the door. And I was clicking around on his phone…but, I found the text messages and began to read them,” said Arias.

1:25 p.m. ET: Arias said shortly before the trip to New York she discovered that Alexander cheated on her.

1:24 p.m. ET: Nurmi is showing the jury pictures of Arias' trip to New York with Alexander in the summer of 2007.

1:22 p.m. ET: 

1:21 p.m. ET: Arias said she took a trip to New York with Alexander in the summer of 2007.

1:18 p.m. ET: Alexander told Arias he was concerned Arias' relationship with her ex-boyfriend could become sexual, after she used her ex-boyfriend's shower.

"He was worried that it would leave to something sexual or I could be at risk because I had gone to somebody’s house to shower," said Arias. "He made me feel vain for wanting to shower, for wanting to shower before I got on the road, that I could have showered later."

1:17 p.m. ET: Arias said she lived with one of her ex-boyfriends while she lived in Big Sur, California. This living arrangement allegedly caused Alexander to flip out a couple times, because he was jealous.

1:13 p.m. ET: Nurmi is asking Arias about when she moved from Palm Desert, California to Big Sur, California in May 2007.

1:12 p.m. ET: When Arias visited Alexander in the spring of 2007, she said she would sleep in Alexander's bedroom when she would visit him in Mesa, Arizona.

1:07 p.m. ET: Arias said she was in love with Alexander when then had sex, and this was around April or May of 2007.

1:05 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Nurmi said, "Did you want him to penetrate your vagina with his penis while you were sleeping?"

 "It was nothing I had thought about," replied Arias.

1:04 p.m. ET: Arias said when she woke up with Alexander inside her, she immediately thought of the consequences of having vaginal sex, because of the church's teachings. She said she thought she was partly to blame, because she slept next to him in cute shorts.

1:00 p.m. ET: Arias is describing her first vaginal sex experience with Alexander in May 2007. She says she feel asleep, and when she woke up he was inside her. Arias says she prayed with Alexander about breaking the Mormon rule of chastity.

“I wanted to comport with the law of chastity because I believed that our relationship would be blessed if we did that,” said Arias.

12:57 p.m. ET: Alexander told Arias he had a temper, but had "mastered it."

12:54 p.m. ET: Arias said the Spider-Man underwear were used in sexual encounters between Arias and Alexander.

12:51 p.m. ET: The Spider-Man underwear did not fit Arias' body. She had to make alterations to them to be able to put them on. Arias said Alexander told her it was hot when she put them on.

12:49 p.m. ET: Arias said the underwear confused her, but she gave him the benefit of the doubt. She thought it was some kind of "trend." Alexander told her that he wanted her to wear the Spider-Man underwear.

12:44 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Kirk Nurmi is asking Arias about the Valentine's Day gift Arias received from Alexander in 2007. Arias says it was a package of three pieces of boys' underwear with different Spider-Man prints on them.

12:42 p.m. ET: The jury is walking in to the courtroom. Arias is about to testify.

Arias also covered the beginning of her tumultuous and sexual relationship with Alexander. Arias said that the same day that Alexander baptized her into the Mormon Church, they had anal sex. Arias is expected to testify Monday about other sexual encounters she had with her ex-boyfriend. This testimony could include how she says she caught Alexander masturbating to images of “young males.” This testimony could help support the defense’s case that Alexander was a sexual deviant.

Arias’ defense is also expected to play a recording of a phone sex conversation between Arias and Alexander. Arias’ family and friends have said they will leave the courtroom when it is played out of respect for her.
