Arias: I had sex the day I was baptized

In Session on truTV will air all of Arias' testimony Thursday morning starting at 9 a.m. ET. You can watch HLN's special coverage of the trial starting at 3 p.m. ET Thursday.

Wednesday was the third day of Arias testifying in her defense.  It was graphic testimony as Arias described how Alexander made her have anal sex for the first time on the same day she was baptized into the Mormon faith.

Arias says she killed Alexander in self-defense because he attacked her. What she says on the witness stand, and how she says it, will likely be a key factor in the jury’s decision on whether she’s guilty of murder. And if the jury votes to convict, her testimony could be the difference in whether she gets the death penalty.

In Session live-blogged Arias’ testimony: Arias described her childhood abuse on Monday. Then she detailed her past boyfriends in Tuesday's testimony. Read below for minute-by-minute updates from her testimony on Wednesday (best read from the bottom up):

6:09 p.m. ET:

Court is in recess until Monday at 12:30 p.m. ET, when Arias will continue with her testimony.

At 12:30 p.m. ET Thursday, the attorneys will be in court for a hearing on several motions.

6:03 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Nurmi is asking Arias about Valentine's Day in February 2007. Alexander sent her a gift, because they were not together for the holiday. The package had chocolates and underwear in it. The same underwear that was shown to the jury earlier in the trial, that said "Travis Alexander's." There was also a pair of boys' Spiderman underwear still in its original packaging. Arias said there was also a nice letter. The attorneys are at a sidebar with the judge now.

5:58 p.m. ET: After the event at the ranch, Arias went with Alexander to his grandmother's home in Riverside, California. Alexander did not introduce her as his girlfriend.

5:55 p.m. ET: The next time Arias saw Alexander was about a week later in southern California for a Prepaid Legal event. There was a party at a ranch, and Alexander did not introduce her to anyone at the event.

5:49 p.m. ET: Arias confronted Alexander about the drunk woman that night. Arias said Alexander reassured her and told her nice things so she got over it.

5:47 p.m. ET: There was a drunk woman at the convention, and she fell on Alexander pressing her chest against him. Alexander acted like he "loved every second of it." Arias went to the bathroom and began to cry.

"She was hanging all over two guys. And after that she kinda lurched over to Travis and fell on him a little. And he held her up…she had this very sexy black gown on and very generous cleavage kinda pressed up against his chest and he looked like he was loving every minute of it," said Arias.

5:40 p.m. ET: Arias is back on the witness stand. Defense attorney Nurmi is asking Arias about a Prepaid Legal convention she attended with Alexander in Oklahoma City in the Spring of 2007.

5:02 p.m. ET: Court is taking a break until 5:20 p.m. ET. The live blog will continue when testimony picks back up.

4:59 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about how Alexander introduced her to a group of his friends as just a friend, not his girlfriend.

4:56 p.m. ET: Arias is describing a Prepaid Legal convention with Alexander in the Spring of 2007. Alexander did not treat her as a girlfriend at the convention.

Arias said she understood, because it was a business convention. Alexander also flirted with another woman in front of her. Alexander apologized about hurting her feelings.

At the convention, Arias and Alexander stayed in separate bedrooms, she said.

“He explained to me it wasn’t looked upon very well to the stay in the same hotel room. Plus, because we weren’t married we weren’t going to get the same hotel room. We would stay…he would stay in a room with a bunch of guys. I would stay in a room with a bunch of girls and we would all split the cost," said Arias.

4:50 p.m. ET: On this trip to Mormon historical sites, Arias and Alexander stayed in the same room. Arias said they also engaged in sexual contact during these trips.

4:49 p.m. ET: Alexander was more affectionate to Arias on these trips.

4:47 p.m. ET: Arias is describing a trip she took with Alexander to see Mormon historical sites in Kansas City and other cities.

4:45 p.m. ET: Arias and Alexander were still in a long-distance relationship in early 2007. Alexander lived in Mesa, Arizona. Arias lived in Palm Desert, California.

Arias said she had sex with Alexander for the first time in the spring of 2007.

"It would have been April or May." said Arias. "It was in the spring."

Arias was still involved with Prepaid Legal at this time.

“I was very actively involved, but I was not making any money,” said Arias.

4:43 p.m. ET: Arias said, at some point, Alexander seemed to talk to her about marriage, and this was one of her primary goals in life.

4:41 p.m. ET: There was another email Arias clicked on that was sexual in nature from an older married Mormon woman. This made Arias question Alexander's values regarding marriage. Defense attorney Kirk Nurmi asked her why she didn't break up with him. Arias said she liked him, and may have been in love with him.

"It was much more sexual in nature, and it was with a married woman, an LDS married woman," said Arias.

4:38 p.m. ET: Arias said the email was flirtatious, and they also discussed meeting up. This upset Arias, because she was Alexander's girlfriend at this time.

4:36 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about how she accidently got into his MySpace account that weekend in early February 2007. Arias clicked on an email in his MySpace account from another girl.

"I clicked back one too many times and I was in his MySpace account," said Arias.

4:31 p.m. ET: Alexander also called her "porn star" and "Polly Anna." Arias said he called her "Polly Anna," because she was always so positive.

4:28 p.m. ET:

4:27 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander called her a "skank." He followed it up quickly by saying he was just kidding.

4:26 p.m. ET: Alexander told Arias that he didn't want her dating anyone else, and she became his girlfriend. Later, Arias found out around this time Alexander was dating another girl.

“Yeah, I felt pretty good about it. We had mad a lot of progress over the last 3 weeks because of some other things that happened… He seemed to really change and better himself and was treating me very nicely. And when we became what I believed was exclusive it seemed like the natural next step," said Arias.

4:22 p.m. ET: The next day, Arias and Alexander hung out at his house.

“We stayed in the bedroom a lot. But, when we hung out downstairs but if the roommates there we were just like friends,” said Arias.

4:20 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about a time he surprised Alexander at his house in Mesa, Arizona, in February 2007.

“That month he showed up at my doorstep and 1:40 in the morning without warning…and so a few weeks later I thought I would repay him in kind and surprise him as well," said Arias.

During this trip to Mesa, Arias spent the night in Alexander's bedroom. They had sexual contact that night and the next.

"I told him it’s ok if you want me to sleep on the couch, I’m ok with that. And he balked and insisted I stay in his bedroom with him," said Arias.

4:14 p.m. ET: Arias is describing how they became an official couple in February 2007.

4:13 p.m. ET:

4:12 p.m. ET: Alexander and Arias became an official couple in February 2007.

4:11 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander reprimanded her about going on dates with men that were not members of the Mormon church. Nurmi asked her why she would allow him to control who she dated.

"It made sense to me. So I agreed with him," said Arias. "He explained to me the importance of dating within the church and it made sense to me. I agreed with him."

"He hung up on me that night and was upset. And it kinda jarred me a little bit. And I decided to write him an e-mail. I don’t know why but I felt like I was cheating on him even though he told me to date other people. I felt guilty about it. So, I expressed that to him," said Arias.

4:08 p.m. ET: Alexander seemed to get upset about Arias going on a date with another man. "His mood changed," said Arias.

4:05 p.m. ET: Arias is describing how these dates did not turn in to romantic relationships. She told Alexander about these dates after she went on them.

4:01 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about other dates she went on with other men in January 2007. Alexander encouraged her to go on these dates.

“I was encouraged to date other people,” said Arais.

4:00 p.m. ET: Nurmi asked if she thought Alexander was dating anyone else. She said in the fall of 2006 she didn't think he was dating anyone else.

3:58 p.m. ET: Arias said she had no sexual contact with Alexander that weekend. The only affection she showed him that weekend was when they parted ways and they kissed goodbye. At one point that weekend, she tried to hold his hand, but he recoiled. It seemed he did want to show her any affection in front of her friends.

"He said, 'here kiss me quick, while no one is looking.' It was a brief kiss and that was it," said Arias.

3:52 p.m. ET: Attorneys are at a sidebar with the judge.

3:51 p.m. ET: Arias said Alexander's ex-girlfriend was staying over at his place that weekend in December 2006. Alexander told her they could not be affectionate in front of her.

3:49 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Kirk Nurmi is asking Arias about a weekend she spent at Alexander's home in Mesa, Arizona along with some other Prepaid Legal employees.

3:48 p.m. ET: The jury is walking in the courtroom.

3:41 p.m. ET: The parties are in the courtroom. Arias' testimony should resume shortly.

3:33 p.m. ET: Court should be back in session any minute now.

2:03 p.m. ET: Court is taking a lunch recess until 3:30 p.m. ET. The live blog will continue when testimony picks back up.

1:54 p.m. ET: Arias is describing a trip she took to visit Alexander in Mesa, Arizona.

1:53 p.m. ET:

1:50 p.m. ET: Despite the anal sex, Arias said she thought she was still following the law of chastity.

1:48 p.m. ET: Arias said she became Alexander's girlfriend two months after her baptism.

1:46 p.m. ET: Alexander would only call Arias after 11 p.m.

1:45 p.m. ET: Arias said the anal sex made her feel like "a piece of toilet paper." Arias seems to be crying. She never told Alexander that the sexual encounter made her feel bad about herself.

VIDEO: Arias describes sex with Travis on day of baptism

1:41 p.m. ET: Arias said the anal sex was too painful so she stopped him. She said if it didn't hurt, she would have let him continue.

1:39 p.m. ET: "I was in my church clothes. He was in his church clothes. The kissing got more passionate, more intense. Then he spun me around…he bent me over the bed and he was just on top of me. I thought he was just going to keep kissing me,” said Arias.

1:38 p.m. ET: After the baptism, Arias and Alexander went back to her house. Arias said Alexander bent her over the bed, and he began to have anal sex with her.
1:34 p.m. ET: The baptism was held in a chapel, and a few people gave speeches. Alexander was in a giant bathtub vessel full of water. Arias was dressed in an all-white jumpsuit. She said she entered the water then Travis made a declaration and dunked her in the water.
1:31 p.m. ET: Arias is describing her baptism in to the Mormon faith. Her family did not attend the ceremony, and her family was not supportive of her joining the church.
1:30 p.m. ET: Nurmi asked, "Your understanding of the law of chastity was abstaining from penile/vaginal intercourse, that is what your understanding was? Is that correct?"

"Yes," replied Arias.

1:26 p.m. ET: Arias says she was approved for baptism in about a week.
1:23 p.m. ET: Before her baptism, Arias was interviewed by members of the Mormon church. They asked her if she was following the law of chastity, and she thought she was following it in a "technical sense," based on what Alexander told her.

1:22 p.m. ET: The Mormon respect for other religions impressed Arias. She also said she agreed with their views on marriage and family.

"It was an acceptance and a tolerance of all faiths in the world, basically," said Arias.

1:18 p.m. ET: Arias is describing why she wanted to join the Mormon faith.

1:17 p.m. ET: Arias said she felt guilty about not sending him pictures of her naked body because Alexander felt disappointed.

1:16 p.m. ET: Nurmi asked Arias why she didn't send sexual photos back to Alexander. Arias said she was conflicted about sending pictures of her body. Alexander thought she should send photos of herself to be fair.

1:14 p.m. ET: Arias said she was surprised to get the photos of Alexander's genitalia on her phone.

1:13 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Nurmi is showing photos of Alexander's genitalia that he sent her with his phone. The photos were sent November 11, 2006, just 15 days before her baptism. Arias seems to be getting upset on the stand as the photos are shown.

1:07 p.m. ET: Alexander baptized Arias in to the Mormon faith on November 26, 2006.

1:06 p.m. ET: Alexander did not call Arias until a few days after the trip with Ehrenberg. Arias thought he had gotten what he wanted, and was done with her. When Alexander finally called her he reassured her, and it seemed like everything was back to normal.

1:01 p.m. ET: Defense attorney Nurmi asked Arias if she felt used why did she continue to want to talk to him. Arias said she had feelings for him, but she wasn't in love. It was more of a crush.

12:58 p.m. ET: Arias says she didn't think they were sinning, because Alexander said oral sex wasn't sin. The trip to Ehrenberg made her feel like a prostitute.

“I didn’t feel like we had grown closer. He seemed more distant,'' said Arias. “It didn’t feel like too much too soon anymore because over that month we had really gotten to know each other really well. I developed feelings for him. It was confusing though.”

“Well, I trusted what I was told by him. I didn’t feel like we were sinning. I just felt, I hate to put it this way, I felt a little bit used. But, I knew I had gone there on my own willingly.”

12:54 p.m. ET: Arias said when they parted ways in Ehrenberg, Alexander was not very affectionate, and that made her feel stupid.

12:52 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about her encounters with Mormon missionaries and what they told her about the faith's vow of chastity prohibiting premarital sex. Arias says she did know about the vow during her trip to Ehrenberg.

“To me sex is sex, they’re just different ways to have sex. And it seemed like Travis was kind of…um, I don’t know how to put it but it seemed like he had the Bill Clinton version, where as over here it seemed like oral and anal were also sex to me. But, not for him," said Arias.

12:49 p.m. ET: Alexander shared more information about the Mormon faith with Arias over this weekend trip.

12:48 p.m. ET: During the trip to Ehrenberg, Arias said she had three sexual encounters. Alexander also expressed a desire to have anal sex with her that weekend. They did not engage in anal sex at that time.

12:46 p.m. ET: After the movie, they engaged in oral sex again. Arias says Alexander was distant the whole weekend. She also said she thought the weekend trip to Ehrenberg was supposed to romantic, but it didn't turn out that way.

12:44 p.m. ET: After their sexual encounter at the motel, Arias says they watched game shows. The next day they went to a movie, and at a Sizzler.

12:42 p.m. ET: Arias said they didn't have intercourse, but they did what Alexander called "grinding" or the "Provo push." They also engaged in oral sex again.

12:41 p.m. ET: Arias is talking about making out with Alexander when she arrived at the motel in Ehrenberg.

12:40 p.m. ET: Arias is describing a trip she took with Alexander to the town of Ehrenberg, Arizona.

12:38 p.m. ET: Defense Kirk Nurmi is admitting a phone recording between Arias and Alexander in to the record.

12:37 p.m. ET: The jury is walking into court right now. Arias is on the stand.

12:35 p.m. ET:  Arias is wearing a black blazer and a green shirt today.

12:31 p.m. ET: Arias is in the courtroom, and testimony should pick back up any minute.

12:29 p.m. ET: From our producer in the courtroom: The trial should start on time today at 12:30 p.m. ET. Judge Sherry Stephens said she has noting else on her docket, and would like to start promptly. All the attorneys are in the courtroom, and they are waiting on Arias to be brought in.
