Good news for job seekers! Home Depot plans to hire 80,000 season employees this spring -- a sign the home improvement retailer expects a strong season of home building.
The number of new job openings is 10,000 more than the company posted prior to last year's spring, which is its busiest season. The additional jobs reflect a 14% year-over-year increase in seasonal hiring, thanks in part to an improving housing market and strong home-building industry.
Home Depot is directly impacted by fluctuations in the housing market and home building in the United States. The recession caused the retailer to cut 7,000 jobs a few a years ago. But over the past couple of years, Home Depot has increased its spring seasonal hiring each year, adding 60,000 jobs in 2011 and 70,000 jobs in the spring of 2012.
Home Depot has 2,256 stores across North America, and if you're interested in a job, you can apply online.
Home Depot now has a tool specifically designed to help military veterans find career opportunities with the company. The online tool guides users through a survey that helps them match their military experience with Home Depot jobs that fit their background.
